Potentiodynamic and immersion corrosion tests were performed in solutions with concentration of 0,01 – 2 M NaCl. The tests of microstructure of magnesium alloy after its exposure in NaCl solutions were performed with application of scanning micr oscope. The r esults of measur ements of allo y sur face t opography w ere g iven, which were obtained by means of optical profi le measurement gauge. The results of carried out tests prove explicitly that corrosion properties of extruded magnesium alloy WE43 deteriorate with the increase of molar concentration of NaCl solution. It was proved that irrespective of the concentration of the solution, WE43 alloy features pitting corrosion. It indicates the necessity to apply protective layers on the parts made of the tested alloy.

In Vitro Corrosion Study of Friction Stir Processed WE43 Magnesium Alloy in a Simulated Body Fluid
Corrosion behavior of friction stir processing (FSP) WE43 alloy in a simulated body fluid (SBF) was investigated. Micro-galvanic corrosion was the dominated corrosion behavior, and the corrosion resistance of FSP WE43 alloy was improved compared to the cast counterpart. Furthermore, due to the fine-grained and homogeneous microstructure, uniform corrosion morphology was observed on FSP WE43 all...

Bioabsorbable magnesium (Mg) alloys have several advantages in biomedical implant applications as they reduce certain risks associated with conventional permanent implants. However, limited information is available for WE43 Mg alloy specimens with comparable size to that of biomedical implants such as cardiovascular stents and orthopaedic wires. The present work examines the corrosion and biolo...

Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was performed on ZK60 alloy and pure Mg in the temperature range 150-250 °C. A significant grain refinement was detected after ECAP, leading to an ultrafine grain size (UFG) and enhanced formability during extrusion process. Comparing to conventional coarse grained samples, fracture elongation of pure Mg and ZK60 alloy were significantly improved by 130% an...

متن کاملEffect of Mucin and Bicarbonate Ion on Corrosion Behavior of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy for Airway Stents
The biodegradable ability of magnesium alloys is an attractive feature for tracheal stents since they can be absorbed by the body through gradual degradation after healing of the airway structure, which can reduce the risk of inflammation caused by long-term implantation and prevent the repetitive surgery for removal of existing stent. In this study, the effects of bicarbonate ion (HCO₃-) and m...
